Skinny on Skin


Pursuant to P.A. 103-0851, the Melanoma Education Law, licensees regulated under the

Acupuncture Practice Act, the Illinois Athletic Trainers Practice Act, the Massage

Licensing Act, Naprapathic Practice Act, the Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair

Braiding, and Nail Technology Act of 1985, and the Electrologist Licensing Act are

required to provide proof of completion of a course approved by the Department regarding

abnormal skin growth education, including training on identifying melanoma. The training

must be completed by:

1. Applicants who submit an application for original licensure on or after January

2. 1,2026

Applicants who were licensed before January 1, 2026, when submitting the

applicant's first application for renewal or restoration of a license on or after

January 1, 2026.

The Department is promulgating rules regarding approving this training and providers of

the training. Until those rules are in effect, the Department approves the program "Skinny

on Skin" by Impact Melanoma, Inc., as an online course that fulfills the abnormal skin

growth education requirement to be completed by new applicants for original licensure

and all renewal and restoration applicants.

the end of the program, that certificate should be provided to the Department with the

licensee’s application.
