Log in to your AMTA account and go to your membership or account area to view your membership details and certificate options. If the certificate is available in your account, open it and use your browser or PDF print option to print or save a copy. If you cannot find it, contact AMTA Member Services or the Illinois Chapter for help.
AMTA uses a CE Transcript area for self-reported credits. Log in to your AMTA account, open the CE Transcript section, and look for the option to report CE credits. Enter the course information from your certificate, including the course title, date, provider, and number of CE hours, then save the entry. Keep your original certificate for your records in case you are audited.
For the 2026 Illinois massage therapy renewal cycle, licensed massage therapists must complete 25 hours of approved continuing education. IDFPR notes that the total increased from 24 to 25 hours because of a new domestic violence and sexual assault awareness requirement that takes effect for the 2026 renewal.
For the 2026 renewal, Illinois requires at least 2 hours in ethics, 1 hour in sexual harassment prevention, and 1 hour in domestic violence and sexual assault awareness. These hours count toward the total CE requirement. Members should always verify current requirements directly with IDFPR before renewing in case the law or rules change.
No. Illinois states that licensees are exempt from the continuing education requirement for their first renewal of an Illinois massage therapy license. After that first renewal, the regular CE requirements apply.
Illinois massage therapy licenses expire on December 31 of even-numbered years. IDFPR typically opens online renewal about 2 to 3 months before the expiration date, so members should watch for renewal availability in the fall of the renewal year.
Members can find chapter events, education updates, and announcements under EDUCATION TAB on the AMTA Illinois Chapter website. The chapter also offers ways to connect locally through meetings, educational sessions, and chapter communications.
Members can find courses through AMTA continuing education offerings, Illinois-approved CE sponsors, NCBTMB-approved providers accepted by Illinois, and approved Illinois massage schools or programs. Always confirm that a course meets Illinois requirements before enrolling.
If you miss the renewal window or place your license on inactive status, you must work with IDFPR to reinstate or restore your license before practicing again. IDFPR provides a reactivation request process and instructions for licenses that are expired or inactive.
AMTA-IL members can get involved through chapter committees, networking groups, outreach, communications, education support, and government relations. If you want to volunteer, contact the Illinois Chapter and let them know your interests and skills. E-mail illinois@amtamassage.org
