Chapter Committees and Volunteers
We bring different perspectives to the table, and we’re united by a love for purposeful work, thoughtful design, and real connection.
Sharon Wong’s journey into massage therapy began in the most unexpected way — flat on her back, unable to move, wondering what her life would look like when she finally stood again. A cervical spine injury had left her temporarily paralyzed, but it also cracked open a new path. In that stillness, she heard a voice: massage therapy. She had never considered it, but the message was unmistakable.
At the time, Sharon was an investigator with the Chicago Police Department. She returned to the job, but only for two months. Four years from a full pension, she walked away — choosing purpose over predictability. She enrolled in massage school, trusted the calling, and transformed her life.
Twenty five years later, Sharon is a respected therapist and a fierce advocate for the profession. Through her work with the AMTA‑Illinois Chapter — as Education Chairperson and newly appointed Delegate — she champions the future of massage therapy in healthcare. Her story is proof that sometimes the most powerful healing begins with listening to that inner voice.

From an early age, I recognized the importance of therapeutic touch for the geriatric population. I graduated from Carlson College of Massage Therapy in Stone City, Iowa, in 1996. Since then, I have studied three energy-based modalities, which I incorporate into my practice and enjoy teaching to others.
I also value plant-based support and the role of essential oils in wellness, and I stay informed on how they interact with the body. As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, I support clients who are preparing for surgery or recovering post-operatively, with the goal of promoting healing, reducing discomfort, and helping lower infection risk. I also offer LifeWave patches as an emerging, noninvasive technology intended to support the body’s natural healing processes. I see clients in my studio and provide mobile services for homes, businesses, and fundraising events. As a WESOS sister, I am committed to supporting others on their journeys to success.
